Ricky Gervais is attached to star in the comedy EARLY RETIREMENT for Warner Bros. based on a pitch by Mark Perez (ACCEPTED). In the film, Gervais would star as a guy tired of his worklife who decides to quit to spend more time with his family. Trouble is, family life turns out to be not all it was cracked up to be. Perez said he was inspired by cheesy family comedies where at the end, the workaholic dad ditches his job to run home and be with his family. He wanted to start from that point and see what happened afterwards. A producer heard Perez’s pitch, brought aboard Gervais and they jointly pitched WB on the project. Perez will next direct his own comedy script CELLMATES about two college kids who befriend an inmate. Gervais is getting ready to begin filming on the romantic comedy GHOST TOWN with Greg Kinnear and Tea Leoni. He can also be seen this month as “Ferdy the Fence” in STARDUST.
