Get a look at the dazzling camerawork of La La Land in BTS videos

For those of you haven’t seen LA LA LAND, shame on you. But for those who have, have you been wondering how the hell they shot that movie. I know I have. Filled with plenty of long, intricate takes the musical is a technical marvel of editing and choreography, and thanks to one valuable crew member we have the best look at how it all came together yet. Arri Robbins, a Steadycam operator on the film, shared several behind-the-scenes videos of some of the biggest numbers in the movies being shot, and in them we see just the camera moves and was rigged to get those dazzling moments. Watch the dazzling below!

The video of “Someone in the Crowd” (# 3) is a little hard to get into with the actors blocked, but I loved the one with director Damien Chazelle using a simple shoulder tap to que his camera guy to switch between Ryan Gosling playing piano and Emma Stone dancing on the floor (#4). Also, talk about a sick afro Chazelle has on him.

LA LA LAND is all dreamers and love and, in a broader sense, the beauty of movies. So getting a chance to see this all come together just reinforces how magical the movies are. Chazelle is up for Best Director at the Oscars this year, and I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t come out on top, as well as the folks nominated for Best Cinematography and Editing. Seriously, that afro though.

LA LA LAND is in theaters now. SEE IT!
