Godzilla: King of the Monsters toy designs reveal Mothra, Rodan, Ghidorah

Look up in the sky! It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no, it’s three flying monsters come to destroy your city. Stop looking and run!

In the sequel to 2014’s GODZILLA – GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS – the title monster will star in a battle worth watching, facing off against his massive, legendary foes Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah. These winged beasties will give our favorite giant lizard a run for his lizard money, and now you can get a look at the formidable creatures in the form of toy designs that director Michael Dougherty revealed on social media.

Dougherty posted the four pics of the SH MonsterArts figures on Twitter, teasing the best look yet at the new monsters. “Playing with my old Godzilla Shogun Warrior and the family camcorder is how I got started,” he said. “Here’s hoping these SH MonsterArts figures will inspire some kid out there to do the same.”

Pictured are all the monsters, starting with moth-like Mothra, Godzilla, the three-headed King Ghidorah and Rodan, who sort of looks like something that flew straight out of hell. We got a glimpse of the monsters earlier this summer when the first trailer dropped at Comic-Con. We saw the monsters wreaking havoc on our world, with Vera Farmiga talking ominously about how these beasts, the Titans, are the only thing that will ensure our survival as a species. EW published an interview with Dougherty around that same time, sharing details about the state humanity is in after the events of the 2014 film.

“The world is reacting to Godzilla, in the same way, we would react to any other terrifying incident, in that we are overreacting. Godzilla hasn’t been seen since that destructive finale, but there’s paranoia and endless speculation about whether he is the only one out there or whether we’re threatened by others like his kind.”

GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS starring Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler, Ken Watanabe, Sally Hawkins, Bradley Whitford, Charles DanceThomas Middleditch, O'Shea Jackson Jr., and Zhang Ziyi arrives May 31, 2019.
