Gossip Girl trailer takes us back to the Upper East Side

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Hey Upper East Siders, I wasn't completely into the idea of HBO Max rebooting Gossip Girl but after seeing this sultry first tease, I think I'm ready to get reacquainted with the shenanigans of the young, the rich, & the powerful.

The teaser also revealed that the show is arriving sooner than I realized. Gossip Girl drops on HBO Max on July 8, 2021, and the teaser promises that we'll get shares of the show we once loved as it's shifted into the smartphone era, where beautiful influencers carefully police their image on social media. Once again voiced by Kristen Bell, our favorite narrator warns them by saying "Thinking you're in control of your image, your actions, the narrative. But you forgot one thing: I can see you. And before I'm through, I'll make sure you see me too. XOXO."

The new Gossip Girl stars Jordan Alexander, Eli Brown, Thomas Doherty, Tavi Gevinson, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Zion Moreno, Whitney Peak, and Savannah Lee Smith. Executive producers include Josh Schwartz & Stephanie Savage, who created the original series, while Karena Evans directs the first two episodes with original costume designer Eric Daman back to make a new generation look very beautiful.

Gossip Girl originally ran from 2007-2012 and 121 episodes on The CW. The show was based on the novel series of the same name by Cecily von Ziegesar and it revolved around the lives of privileged upper-class adolescents living in Manhattan's Upper East Side. The series was a pop-cultural phenomenon & made stars out of its cast, including Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Chace Crawford, Penn Badgley, Ed Westwick, Taylor Momsen, & Jessica Szohr. Kelly Rutherford & Matthew Settle also starred.
