Hayley Atwell confirms that she’s a go for two Mission: Impossible films!

Mission: Impossible, Tom Cruise, Haley Atwell

Last week Hayley Atwell, best known for playing Agent Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, teased her inclusion for Christopher McQuarrie's next installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise. Word of her boarding the action-packed series top-lined by Tom Cruise arrived courtesy of an Instagram post with a photo of Atwell on top of a Impossible Mission Force binder with the caption, "Should you choose to accept…" Shortly thereafter, Atwell responded to the tantalizing post with one of her own by saying, "Mission: Accepted. Though I’m not the sort to follow orders…" Of course, Atwell's response was promptly followed by me screaming with excitement like Jonah Hill in that famous GET HIM TO THE GREEK gif.

Following last week's announcement, Atwell has taken to Instagram once again to confirm that not only is she down to engage in a mission most impossible, she's signed on to star opposite Tom Cruise in Paramount Pictures’ upcoming MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 7 and MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 8! Little is known about either film thus far, other than that the first is expected to arrive in theaters sometime in 2021, with the second scheduled for 2022.

I had a go at a ‘photo grid’ in an attempt to display some tech-savvy-millennial skills. For those of you who don’t know, this involves nine separate posts loaded one at a time which only come together as a complete image when someone views the profile page. Some of the comments were of the ‘wot-is-goin-on-u-can’t-frame-a-picture, mate’ variety SO, to ease the confusion, here is my news in one post….. I’m thrilled to have joined @tomcruise and @christophermcquarrie for the next TWO Mission Impossible movies. To have gone from a classical play in the west-end to an audio book recording of a great new novel to a Disney/Marvel animation and now the female lead in a huge action franchise is the kind of variety that fuels my curiosity and keeps me learning and striving to be better and do better. I can’t wait to start sharing this adventure with you. Mostly in the form of effusive, sweaty ranting about stunt training while spontaneously vomiting with excitement/exhaustion. Lucky you. ????

Returning to the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE franchise for McQuarries next installment are Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson (DOCTOR SLEEP), Simon Pegg (SHAUN OF THE DEAD) and Ving Rhames (PULP FICTION). Skydance Media will produce the next two films in the franchise, after boarding the series in 2011 for MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL.

The latest installment of the series, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT, currently holds a 97% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes; this after raking in more than $750 million at the worldwide box office. Hot damn! Who Atwell will play in the Mission: Impossible movies remains a mystery for now, though if I may, I'd love to see her star as the newest villain of the series.
