Halloween Kills filmmakers tease Haddonfield uprising against Michael Myers

If you're like me, you were very upset that HALLOWEEN KILLS got pushed back a whole year because 2020 just hasn't been kind to most of us. Or it's because of a global pandemic that has shuttered theaters nationwide. Either way, this highly-anticipated sequel to the 2018 revamp/sequel was something I was really looking forward to this October but I guess I will have to live with the little bread crumbs that some of the filmmakers have been leaving for fans recently. Director David Gordon Green and co-writer Danny McBride recently spoke with "Empire" about the sequel and they're teasing that this time it's not only Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) that Michael Myers will have to deal with.

Danny McBride revealed that in HALLOWEEN KILLS, Michae's reign of terror has caused the entire town of Haddonfield to rise up against the knife-wielding killer so it appears that Laurie and her daughter (Judy Greer) and granddaughter (Andi Matichak), won't be the only obstacles trying to stop him once and for all:

"It takes place the same night, picking up where the last movie ended. Events in the film bring together a lot of characters who were in the 1978 film who we didn't see the last time. They gather to try, once and for all, to take down Michael, to stop this madman."

This is pretty much in line with some of the casting for HALLOWEEN KILLS which brings back Tommy Doyle, now played by Anthony Michael Hall, Lindsey Wallace (Kyle Richards returning from the 1978 film), Lonnie Elam (played by Robert Longstreet) and Sheriff Leigh Brackett (Charles Cyphers, also returning from the 1978 film). Even though we didn't see these characters in the previous film, it makes sense for them to still be present in Haddonfield and we'll get to see how they're affected by the return of The Shape on this fateful Halloween night. David Gordon Green goes on to say that the film is less about Laurie's isolation this time around and more about a community that is turned upside down by his return:

"This first one was more about Laurie's life of isolation after Michael and her attempts at revenge. It was personal. This is more about the unraveling of a community into chaos. It's about how fear spreads virally."

Make no mistake though. This is still Laurie's story and David Gordon Green says he was able to push the envelope so much more with the character in the sequel because Jamie Lee Curtis was willing to go as far as she could physically to make it all believable:

"We learned that Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie is capable of anything! We didn't know what to expect working with her. The fact that she could do her won stunts, kick everybody's ass and be a joy to work with – that definitely meant re-evaluating what we wanted to do with the next chapter of the story. We were excited to write without limitations about what Laurie can do."

This only makes me more excited for the film and upset that we have to wait another year to see this all come together. A brief teaser was released when the film announced being pushed a year and it was a sweet little 30-second snippet but I truly can't wait to see what they do with this film and how they wrap this all up in HALLOWEEN ENDS.
