Has The Amazing Spider-Man 3 been pushed back until 2017?

In a report on yesterday's news about the rumored schedule for Warner Bros. and DC's comic book movies, AICN revealed this little tidbit of information.

I have been told that THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 has been moved to an undetermined date in 2017.

It's been just about a year since Sony first announced release dates for the third and fourth Spidey flicks (June 10, 2016 and May 4, 2018), and since then VENOM and SINISTER SIX spin-offs have been announced as well. However, THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 hasn't performed as well at the box office as Sony had hoped, and reviews from critics and fans have been very mixed.

While this isn't an official announcement, I wouldn't be surprised if Sony does want to take the time to rethink their future plans for the franchise. I'm not saying they're going to scrap whatever plans they might have for the third movie, or do another reboot, but perhaps Sony wants to make sure they are moving forward with the right strategy for their Spidey movies. Also, one of the biggest complaints from most critics and fans about THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 was the villains, so maybe Sony is also getting cold feet about doing a SINISTER SIX spin-off.

I do think it's a little odd there hasn't been that much news about THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 or the spin-offs since the release of the second movie. But this is only a rumor for now, and we'll have to wait and see if Sony does push THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3 back until 2017, or move forward as planned with the third movie.
