In the film, Hathaway stars as a reporter "with a moral compass," Elena McMahon, who uncovers an arms-related conpiracy involving Contras in Central America. After a bit of sleuthing, McMahon discovers that her own father (Dafoe) is at the heart of the deal. Soon thereafter, push comes to shove, and suddenly Elena finds herself on the frontline of a weapons exchange that threatens her own life as well as those caught in the crossfire.

Directed and co-written by PARIAH and MUDBOUND helmer Dee Rees, with Marco Villaobos also on scripting duties, THE LAST THING HE WANTED is adapted from Joan Didion's namesake novel.

If car chases, heavy artillery, and shady deals gone horribly wrong are your cup of tea, you'll be pleased to know that THE LAST THING HE WANTED premieres on Monday night at the Sundance Film Festival and comes to Netflix February 21st.
