The reboots just keep on coming! It has been announced that a reboot of the comedy series Head of the Class is headed to HBO Max. The half-hour multicamera comedy reboot has been given a 10-episode order on the streaming platform.

The rebooted series is executive produced by Bill Lawrence, best known for Scrubs and the new critical darling Ted Lasso, and he will take on these duties alongside writers Amy Pocha and Seth Cohen. Leading the series will be Isabella Gomez and she will be joined by Jorge Diaz, Jolie Hoang Rappaport, Gavin Lewis, Dior Goodjohn, Brandon Severs, Adrian Matthew Escalona, and Katie Beth Hall, plus guest star Christa Miller.

Much like the original series from the 1980s, Head of the Class will center on a group of overachieving high school students who meet their greatest challenge –  a teacher, Alicia Adams, who wants them to focus less on grades and more on experiencing life. Filming on the reboot is expected to begin this summer in Los Angeles.

Head of the Class originally aired on ABC for five seasons from 1986-1991. Over a run of 114 episodes, the show revolved around a group of academically high-performing high school students at the Millard Fillmore school in New York City, shepherded by substitute history teacher Charlie Moore, played by Howard Hesseman. The series also starred Billy Connolly, William G. Schilling, Jeannetta Arnette, Dan Frischman, Dan Schneider, Tony O'Dell, Robin Givens, Kimberly Russell, Leslie Bega, Tannis Vallely, and Brian Robbins. The show was also known for a number of someday-famous actors making appearances on the series, including Brad Pitt.
