Helen Mirren will return to the Fast & Furious series under one condition

While super humans Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham have become valuable assets to the FAST AND THE FURIOUS ensemble, FATE OF THE FURIOUS got a serious thespian boost when Oscar-winners Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren signed on. Though Theron is unlikely to return to the series, Mirren recently talked about how she’s more than willing to return for more movies, only if her one very legitimate demand is met.

When speaking to a few outlets at the Toronto International Film Festival this weekend Mirren opened up about her one request, and considering the nature of the series, I don’t think it’s too much to ask for:

I’d love to come back. But, guys, I want to drive next time.

Mirren played the role of Magdalene Shaw – the mother of Owen Shaw (Luke Evans) and Deckard Shaw (Statham) – in the latest movie about burly people driving cars, although we don’t see much of her, and certainly not behind the wheel of a turbocharged vehicle. But she was simply flattered to be in the movie, and neared begged the producers to make her a part of the series:

They very kindly wrote me in and that was really sweet of them and I love those guys, they’re fantastic…I almost went down on my knees. Not quite. But I went down on my metaphorical knees to Vin [Diesel] and to everyone. I always… I just wanted to be in one of those movies.

She got her wish, and along with Theron added some much-welcomed pedigree to the series, further proving these movies’ popularity has extended beyond that of typical action junkies. We know there will be a FAST 9 and 10 (and a Johnson/Statham spinoff in there), so chances are we could see Mirren pop-up once again. These movies have a tendency to bring back characters, so get ready to see Mirren tearing up the road behind some sort of supped-up Lamborghini.

I’m vocally not a massive fan of the FAST movies, at least when compared to modern audience’s love of the series. But this last movie did have the inclusion of Theron and Mirren going for it, and I’m always ready to see more Mirren in anything. She’s been increasing her Mega Badass reputation by being in movies like RED and FATE, so maybe it’s time for her to go into full action hero mode.
