Henry Cavill talks Superman, graces the cover of Entertainment Weekly

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Just a few weeks ago Christian Bale, when asked his advice to Henry Cavill who had just won the role in the Zack Snyder/Christopher Nolan reboot of Superman, had no idea who Henry Cavill was. That’s about to change as the push to get American audiences more familiar with the “Tudors” actor begins. Cavill appears on the cover of this Friday’s “Entertainment Weekly” and is at the forefront of an article on the new batch of superheroes.

The full article, which includes new quotes from Cavill, Snyder and Nolan, isn’t online yet, but here’s a tease from Cavill on his screentest, which included wearing a dated replica of Christopher Reeve’s classic Superman costume: “All I could think was: Oh, god. They’re going to look at me and go ‘He’s not Superman. Not a chance.’ The actor inside me was going: You’re not ready! You’re not ready!”

Snyder disagreed saying that he may have laughed at how some other actors looked in the costume but felt that Cavill “exuded this kind of crazy-calm confidence that just made me go ‘Wow.’ Okay: This was Superman.”

I don’t know that I’m 100% convinced in Cavill yet but I’ve been surprised before. What do you think? How does he stack up against Ryan Reynolds, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and this summer’s other superheroes?
