Hold up, Emily Browning! Is Kristen Stewart also up for the title role in Snow White and the Huntsman?

SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN has been getting a lot of attention these days! Just a few hours ago, we reported that Viggo Mortensen (A DANGEROUS METHOD) was entering negotiations to play the titular Huntsman in the Universal fairy tale. It was also stated that SUCKER PUNCH babe Emily Browning was up for the role of Snow White itself. But now, Deadline is saying that TWILIGHT’s Kristen Stewart is rumored to be “looming large” as the film’s potential lead.

THR’s Heat Vision adds that Universal has continually been going back to the idea of casting Stewart ever since they acquired the project in the first place. This is despite the fact that they’ve already tested a handful of (relatively unknown) actresses such as Riley Keough, Felicity Jones, and Alicia Vikander. Browning is the latest to have tested according to them. My guess is that they’d probably like to bring in a bigger female name to attract a wider audience, and Stewart would do just that. Browning could blow up, though, should Zack Synder’s SUCKER PUNCH strike a chord with audiences beyond just movie geeks.

As a refresher, the film’s story centers around the Huntsman who’s ordered to take Snow White into the woods and kill her, but instead escapes with her, becomes her mentor, and teaches her how to fight.

SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN – from writer Evan Daugherty and director Rupert Sanders – is currently set for release on December 21, 2012.
