House Of Cards elects its new showrunners

There is a new Commander-in-Chief for Season Five of HOUSE OF CARDS… two of them, in fact.

No, Kevin Spacey‘s Frank Underwood isn’t going anywhere, but with Beau Willimon previously announcing that he’d be stepping down from the show, someone else had to be tapped as showrunner. That honor has now been bestowed upon senior writers Frank Pugliese and Melissa James Gibson who will be taking the reigns following this coming season.

Both Pugliese and Gibson joined the popular Netflix series in Season Three, with Pugliese receiving writing credit for episodes 3 and 10, while Gibson got the nod for episodes 6 and 11.

‘I welcome Frank and Melissa in their new roles on House of Cards and look forward to collaborating with them and our creative team on season five,’ executive producer/star Kevin Spacey said.

Season Four is set to focus on the relationship of Frank and his wife Claire after their separation at the end of Season Three. Last season wasn’t as well-received as previous stretches, with the emphasis more on the politics than rise to power. But the show remains a must-watch in Netflix’s crop of original programming, so things should be in fine hands with Pugliese and Gibson moving forward unless the show somehow jumps the shark in the meantime.

HOUSE OF CARDS Season Four is scheduled to bow on March 4.
