It’s ant-sized clobberin’ time! New photos from Fantastic Four and Ant-Man

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

It was just this morning when we got our first good look at The Thing as he'll appear in FANTASTIC FOUR and now, thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we already have another photo of Ben Grimm laying down a good ol' fashioned clobberin' on some unknown fool. Now we just need to get a look at Doctor Doom and we'll be set!

When Twentieth Century Fox came calling in search of a new vision for FANTASTIC FOUR, Josh Trank immediately thought about how terrifying it would be if you actually did burst into flame or have your arms turn to rubber:

I just kinda jumped to ‘body horror’ in my head, Chronicle is about the evolution and strengthening of unique powers. This movie is really viewing them as a curse.

Entertainment Weekly seemed pleased with the footage shown to them, saying that "Trank may have succeeded in rescuing the Four from obscurity." My expectations of the film have elevated somewhat now that we've seen some actual footage, but I've yet to have gotten truly excited about the project. That said, it can't be any worse than the previous Fantastic Four films. Fingers crossed.

EW also brought us what is possibly our most exciting look at ANT-MAN to date; Ant-Man launching into battle with Darren Cross, a.k.a. Yellowjacket. I'm really diggin' the look of Corey Stoll's Yellowjacket suit; hopefully his battles with Ant-Man will be as visually thrilling as I'm imagining they are.

Director Peyton Reed commented on the potential mismatch between the two characters as “Hank Pym’s Ant-Man suit doesn’t have a single weapon, whereas Yellowjacket is armed with plasma cannons" by clarifying that "Ant-Man is very fast when he’s small, also, when he shrinks, he increases his density, so he’s got increased strength." Motion-capture suits were worn to film this encounter with both Corey Stoll and Paul Rudd being shot separately, something Paul Rudd hadn't dealt with before:

It was a new experience as far as the motion-capture-suit-ness of it, but none of it feels that different. Every part, I’m pretending to be somebody I’m not. It’s all just a big lie!

Seeing as how ANT-MAN will be hitting theaters on July 17, a mere three months away, I'd imagine we'll be getting a new trailer for the film sooner rather than later. Meanwhile, FANTASTIC FOUR will show up on August 7.
