J.K. Simmons says his Justice League role is “very, very small”

Although the solo BATMAN movie with Ben Affleck is coming much later than we hoped, fans of the man-bat will get their dose of caped goodness this November with JUSTICE LEAGUE. We’ll also get to see the new iteration of another Gothamite, Jim Gordon, played by J.K. Simmons. However, fans hoping to see a lot of him will probably have to wait awhile for that, too.

Simmons spoke more about his role in the upcoming superhero epic while talking with Screen Crush, saying how this first glimpse at the DCEU Gordon is truly an introduction in every sense of the word:

My part in the first film coming out this fall is very, very small. It’s a little introduction of the character. But whenever the next one gets off the ground, whether it’s The Batman movie or the Justice League sequel, and I know those things are getting shuffled around right now … we thought we might be getting to work pretty soon on The Batman, but we’ll see what the future brings. Hopefully that’ll be another comic-book character that I get to take two or three or four cracks at.

At the end there he is of course referring to his time as Daily Bugle editor J. Jonah Jameson in the Sam Raimi SPIDER-MAN movies, a role that when asked if he would return to Simmons said, “The first part of that is never say never. But the second part is I think it’s probably unlikely.” Simmons is part of the DC universe now, and is getting jacked-up for it too, saying how he hopes to make this Jim Gordon a total “badass”.

As for the rest it seems like Simmons is also slightly unsure as to when we could next be seeing the character. Given the shuffle of everything, and BATMAN getting pushed down the pipeline, it seems everyone involved with the movie is being left to out their hands in the air.

Still, I’m as jacked as real-life Simmons to see him in LEAGUE, if only for a brief amount of time. And I have faith we will see him in the next two or so years in the solo BATMAN movie, even if things seem a little rocky on that end in terms of a production start.  All I want is to see Simmons gives Bats a “rushing or dragging” speech after he takes down some thug. There’s always room for improvement, Batman.

JUSTICE LEAGUE arrives November 17.
