Jack Reacher 2 gets an official title that isn’t Jack Reacher 2

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Tom Cruise is back as Jack Reacher with principal photography now underway for the follow-up to 2012’s JACK REACHER, and that sequel in the series based on Lee Child’s novels isn’t going to simply be called JACK REACHER 2. Instead it will borrow from the title of Child’s 18th book in the series and is officially going ahead as JACK REACHER: NEVER GO BACK.

So Cruise is back for NEVER GO BACK. Get it? (Cut me some slack… The new trailer for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS has really sucked all the oxygen out of your typical Tuesday news cycle.)

This time, Edward Zwick sits in the director’s chair, and surprisingly a good amount of people are looking forward to the film. The first JACK REACHER felt like an odd project for Cruise to take, and Paramount really seemed to scale back their promotion of the movie leading up to its release. It was sort of buried in the large mix of films that get released for Christmas, and found an appreciation later on as people decided to give it as a chance as one of the few Tom Cruise vehicles they hadn’t caught yet. Hopefully, this one can deliver on quality again, and, while Cruise hardly seemed like the right actor to take Reacher from the page to screen at the outset of this franchise, with any luck he’ll keep growing into the role – figuratively, not literally.

JACK REACHER: NEVER GO BACK reaches theaters on October 21, 2016.
