James Franco goes Mad Max in bonkers Future World trailer

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Last year James Franco directed one of the best films of the year with THE DISASTER ARTIST, a sweet and hilarious tale about the making of the worst movie ever. What does he follow such a tremendous effort with? An insightful biopic or captivating espionage flick? How about an insane, post-apocalyptic, MAD MAX-meets-punk-rock-music-video-with-cyborgs action flick with himself, Lucy Liu, Milla Jovovich and f**king Snoop Dogg! That movie exists, and it’s called FUTURE WORLD, and we have for you the first, absolutely bananas trailer that finds a series of crazed, scorched-earth survivors hunting down an enhanced “robot sex companion-assassin” (Suki Waterhouse) across a barren wasteland.

Here is a plot synopsis to put the trailer into some kind of context.

Inside a desert oasis, a queen (Lucy Liu) lays dying as her son Prince (Jeffrey Wahlberg) travels across barren waste lands to find a near-mythical medicine to save her life. After evading violent raiders on motorbikes led by the Warlord (James Franco) and his enforcer (Cliff "Method Man" Smith), Prince meets Ash (Suki Waterhouse), the Warlord's robot sex companion-assassin who's in search of her own soul. As Prince is captured by the Druglord (Milla Jovovich), the Warlord's forces roar in – and Prince fights to save the remnants of humanity.

The movie looks like the typical limited release, straight to video/on demand viewing we’ve seen littered across the movie landscape, so it begs the question why does it have such an impressive cast both in front of and behind the camera? This is clearly Franco’s attempt to do something MAD MAX-esque, but obviously, the result is something far more ridiculous. I, I think it demands to be seen by everyone.

FUTURE WORLD is in theaters and on demand on May 25.
