James Gunn says Yondu will not be coming back for Guardians Vol. 3

I don't know about you, but I definitely got choked up when Yondu passed onto that great gig in the sky near the close of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2. For my money, that moment was one of the most impactful death scenes related to big screen comics entertainment ever, and I would be bummed if I'd heard that it was being undone for the sequel.

Thankfully, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY director James Gunn feels the same, at least that's what I've gleaned from a tweet that's recently been posted to his personal account. Over the weekend, Gunn decided to bury speculation that Yondu would return for the Guardians next interstellar adventure by saying the following:

Upon investigating Gunn's ferocity for setting the record straight, you'll find that the spiky-haired filmmaker feels that Yondu's death “needs to mean something.” You're damn right, dude. I for one don't want another "Quicksilver situation" on our hands, either.

It's an interesting situation, really, especially when you consider that Michael Rooker (who plays the fin-headed badass for Gunn's GOTG films) teased that he would possibly play a role in the events of AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR. How so? Well, back in February, Rooker was spotted at a Starbucks in Peachtree, Georgia, about 10 miles from Pinewood Atlanta Studios, where Infinity War was being filmed.

Later that same day, Rooker posted yet another ominous-looking photo in which his hand is covered in blue Yondu makeup. Then, as if to pour more gasoline on the fire, Rooker is holding (and pointing) to bits of a unknown gem in the photo. Now, some people might thing, "Oh c'mon, that's no big deal." However, I'll remind you that we're dealing with comic book logic here, and it's entirely possible that some fans would view the gem shards as a possible ingredient to bring Yondu back from the dead. We now know that this is totally not the case, but for a little while, anything was possible.

Would you be okay with Yondu coming back from the dead, courtesy of some wild and wacky comic book loophole? Or, are you content to let his fatherly essence swim among the stars for as long as the Marvel Universe remains? Let us know in the comments section below.
