Jane Austen zombies?

Let’s face it — there just aren’t many new things that can be done with the zombie genre. But since I’m a fan of the shambling deceased, I’m always willing to give credit to anyone who tries something different.

And this sounds like the very definition of “something different”: a new version of Jane Austen’s literary classic PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, updated with “bone-crunching zombie action”. In the upcoming parody novel by Seth Grahame-Smith, heroine Elizabeth Bennet now finds her attention divided between the supercilious Mr. Darcy and her own war against the hordes of flesh-munching undead.

While the book PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES (featuring illustrations in the style of Austen’s nearly 200 year old original) won’t hit shelves until April, the Herald Sun claims that a Hollywood bidding war is already underway. Here’s hoping someone will soon be dousing those frilly dresses with crimson and brain chunks.
