Jeff Bridges and Karen Allen have ideas for a Starman reunion

At a time when television reunions are among some of the hottest tickets in town, logic dictates that applying the "reconciliation formula" to worthy film properties would be worth a fair amount of consideration. Recently, THE BIG LEBOWSKI and BAD TIMES AT THE EL ROYALE actor Jeff Bridges shared on The Wrap's new "Shoot This Now" podcast that he'd like for there to be a STARMAN reunion, provided that all the pieces were to fall properly into place.

When asked to elaborate on his idea for a modern day STARMAN film, Bridges explained that “It’s all set up, very much like ‘Lebowski,’ like the Little Dude. The Dude in the oven,” he said. “In ‘Starman,’ Karen Allen, she’s got a bun in the oven as well.” Of course, Bridges is referring to the conclusion of John Carpenter's 1984 sci-fi classic that featured an alien (Bridges) taking the form of a young widow's husband and then asking her to drive him from Wisconsin to Arizona. After the government catches wind of the couple's mysterious road trip, the suits try their damnedest in intercept the duo before thier alien target gets away.

After listening to Bridge's enthusiasm for another chapter of STARMAN, The Wrap explained that they would soon be meeting with Carpenter to discuss David Gordon Green's upcoming HALLOWEEN reboot. When asked if they could deliver a message to the acclaimed filmmaker on Bridge's behalf, THE FISHER KING and TRUE GRIT actor replied, “Just say that Karen Allen and I have been jammin’ on different ideas.” Bridge's then added that he was "a little disappointed" to hear that there's already another STARMAN project in the works, and that Shawn Levy of STRANGER THINGS fame had not contacted him. I suppose these things happen, though now that Bridge's interest is out in the wild, perhaps he can expect a call sooner rather than later.

“I was a little disappointed to hear that they’re making a sequel to it already, I think it’s underway… or they’re redoing it or something. … I don’t think we’ve been contacted. I don’t now if John has, but I’d be curious,” said Bridges.

What do you think of the idea of there being another STARMAN? Would you like to see Bridges return to the role, or, are you hopeful that Levy's take will deliver a wholly-new spin on the alien romance tale? Let us know in the comments section below.
