Jeremy Renner teases his return as Hawkeye for Avengers 4

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

When promotion kicked in for AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR fans took to the internet – and perhaps even the streets – asking the burning question, “Where’s Hawkeye?!” The character played by Jeremy Renner since his cameo in 2011’s THOR was noticeably absent in the massive blockbuster, prompting fans to kick, scream and even make their own Hawkeye-centric posters. If you were one of those fans then it’s time to get excited because Renner has taken to social media to tease his return as the bow-slinging Avenger.

Reshoots are kicking off this month for AVENGERS 4, meaning all the heroes who survived Thanos’ (Josh Brolin) Finger Snap of Death are back to do some more work. Hawkeye/Clint Barton must have survived as well, and Renner took to social media to shout to the heavens, “Good to be BACK!!!”

Of course, this spawns even more theories as to what he was doing during the events of IW. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo gave an update back in April, saying they cooked up a story for him that is a “long play,” teasing that “patience is a virtue.” Some folks think he’s on a mission from Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), while some think he’s just been chilling with his family. Sadly, this could mean his family members didn’t survive the snap, giving him a greater emotional reason to break the bow back out.

It’s great to see Renner back in Hawkeye form, and much like the arrival of certain characters in IW, I think his arrival on screen in AVENGERS 4 is going to elicit massive applause from every audience. Theories on where he was will continue to circulate until the movie itself comes out next year, and surely one of them is right. My personal theory involves the end credits of ANT-MAN AND THE WASP, and if you saw the movie and stayed until the end, you know what scene I’m referring to.

AVENGERS 4 arrives in 2019.
