Jeremy Renner wants that Hawkeye movie sooner rather than later

Jeremy Renner has been playing Hawkeye in the Marvel Universe for a few years now, whipping out his little bow and arrow for the first time in a rain-drenched cameo for THOR in 2011. Since then he’s only played a supporting role in movies like AVENGERS and CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR and has never got the solo movie his character deserves. Though Renner is getting older he still wants a shot at that glorious standalone film, but not if Marvel is going to take their sweet ass time doing it.

During an interview with the South China Morning Post, Renner said that he is still game for a solo Hawkeye movie, but that he will probably be less into it as he gets on in years:

It would be a wonderful thing. Just don't wait too long! I don't want to be in my 50s in tights.

Renner has played Hawkeye four times so far (including the cameo), and there probably aren’t too many movies left on his contract. As I indicated in my own “Fate of the Avengers” piece not too long ago I believe Hawkeye will be one of the heroes to kick the bucket come the INFINITY WAR movies. His character just seems primed to go down that route when all the chaos goes down. But I could be wrong, and perhaps the character takes on more of a leadership role come Phase 4. Someone has to keep Spider-Man (Tom Holland) in line.

Much like with Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), I would love to see a minimalist, espionage Marvel movie with a character like Hawkeye at the center (or a team-up with Widow), and think it could definitely break up the massive CGI slam-fests we normally see. Nothing wrong with those, but LOGAN proved audiences will show out for something low key as long as its good. Sadly, I don’t think Hawkeye will get that movie, at least not with Renner in the role. But how awesome would it be to see Hawkeye saying "f**k" in an R-rated Hawkeye movie?

He's not in the trailer, but I assume we will see Hawkeye in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR May 4, 2018.
