Jesse Eisenberg says no scenes with Lex Luthor were cut from Justice League

Once Joss Whedon took over from Zack Snyder to finish up JUSTICE LEAGUE, many began speculating about what ended up on the cutting room floor. Many stories have been going around saying that certain characters that had bigger roles were cut out – like Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg). Well, the air is getting cleared up, with Eisenberg saying that what we saw of him in the movie is all we were meant to get.

Eisenberg is at SXSW this weekend to promote his new documentary, THE WORLD BEFORE YOUR FEET, and was asked if he was meant to have a bigger role in JUSTICE LEAGUE. “No,” he said. “I was in it after the credits.”  He is, of course, referring to the end-credits stinger with him and Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke. After the movie came out some fans were still speculating this was what was left over after some of his bigger scenes were cut. But Eisenberg said it was actually the opposite, saying that they actually “added some stuff.”

Since LEAGUE failed to take off at the box office like the studio hoped, the whole fate of the DCEU is up in the air, and even though Eisenberg hopes to return as Luthor, he currently has no clue what’s going on with the future of the character.

I hope so. I mean, I have no idea is the truth. I love playing the character. Probably in terms of movie acting, it’s the most enjoyable character I’ve had the opportunity to play. So I would love to do it again. But I don’t know what their slate is. If you have any pull, please use it.

Around late summer last year we had started hearing that scenes involving Iris West (Kiersey Clemons) and, possibly, Luthor had been cut from the final version of the movie, so at least for Luthor, this clears the air a bit. I can't say I was a big fan of Eisenberg's Luthor in BATMAN V. SUPERMAN, but he looked a bit calmer and collected at the end of LEAGUE, so if he gets another shot, maybe he will change things up a bit. Lord knows what's going to happen with whatever DC and Warner Bros. had planned, and really anyone's guess is as good as mine.

JUSTICE LEAGUE is on Digital now and on Blu-ray March 13.
