J.K. Simmons to join the cast of Hulu’s Veronica Mars revival

I've got some fantastic news for all of you Marshmallows out there! It's recently been confirmed that WHIPLASH and SPIDER-MAN franchise actor J.K. Simmons has joined the cast of Hulu's revival of VERONICA MARS. Headed up by original series creator Rob Thomas, the eight-episode limited series is expected to arrive sometime in 2019.

Confirmed to return to Neptune, California for yet another criminal conspiracy are series mainstays Kristen Bell (FROZEN, THE GOOD PLACE), Enrico Colantoni (GALAXY QUEST, IZOMBIE) and Jason Dohring (MOONLIGHT, THE ORIGINALS). For the new limited series, Simmons will play Clyde Prickett, an ex-con who served 10 years for racketeering. As a fixer for David Starzyk's (CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE, HOT IN CLEAVELAND) Big Dick Casablancas, the richest real estate developer in Neptune, the pair will bolster their existing friendship throughout the show's events. As the story goes, Prickett offered Casablancas protection on his first day in prison, and now Prickett is back to offer his friend advantages courtesy of “a network of fellow ex-cons he can count on to keep his own hands clean.”

Here's the official logline for the upcoming season:

Spring breakers are getting murdered in Neptune, thereby decimating the seaside town’s lifeblood tourist industry. After Mars Investigations is hired by the parents of one of the victims to find their son’s killer, Veronica is drawn into an epic eight-episode mystery that pits the enclave’s wealthy elites, who would rather put an end to the month-long bacchanalia, against a working class that relies on the cash influx that comes with being the West Coast’s answer to Daytona Beach.

Additionally, other Neptunians will be returning to the series to reprise their respective roles, such as Percy Daggs III, Daran Norris, Ryan Hansen, Francis Capra, and Max Greenfield. Joining them will be newcomers Dawnn Lewis as new police chief Marcia Langdon, Patton Oswalt as the area's “best pizza delivery guy in Neptune” Penn Epner, Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Neptune nightclub operator Nicole, Clifton Collins Jr.  as mid-level cartel hitman Alonzo Lozano, and Izabela Vidovic as the disturbed Matty Ross.

It's also worth mentioning that along with the new season, Hulu will also host all three previous seasons of the show (plus the VERONICA MARS movie) on the popular streaming network. See you next year, Marshmallows!
