Joaquin Phoenix, Joker, Mike Mills

After completing his role as the Jester of Genocide for director Todd Phillips' buzz-worthy JOKER, acclaimed actor Joaquin Phoenix appears to have landed his next role thanks to an untitled project from BEGINNERS and THUMBSUCKER filmmaker Mike Mills. According to Deadline, A24 is in final negotiations to land Mills' mysterious new endeavor, which is expected to go into production this fall.

Recently, Phoenix's JOKER performance earned him the prestigious Golden Lion at Venice, and word has it that the actor is being eyed for a Best Actor Oscar nom come awards season. I've yet to experience JOKER myself, but I know plenty of folks who've attended early screenings of the film, and so far many have praised Phoenix's performance as physically captivating and emotionally chilling to the core. While I have my reservations about how the film will approach an origin story for the Clown Prince of Crime, you can bet that my Joker-loving ass will be hitting the theater on the film's opening weekend to witness Phillips' "masterpiece."

Producing Mills' yet-to-be-named project are Chelsea Barnard, Lila Yacoub and Andrea Longacre-White.

We'll be sure to bring you more details about this project as it develops.
