Joe Dante is doing Labirintus next

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

It feels like it’s been far too long since we’ve gotten a film from Joe Dante that we’ve really loved. Every time the filmmaker attaches his name to a film, we get excited, hoping for another GREMLINS or THE HOWLING. Hell, we’d even settle for something close to MATINEE, THE EXPLORERS or INNERSPACE at this point. But what we wind up with are films like BURYING THE EX and THE HOLE, which don’t quite pass the mustard when lined up against the better end of his filmography.

Hoping for the best but expecting the worst is the territory Dante’s career has moved into, but that doesn’t stop us from being hopeful when he lines up another project. Maybe this will be the one to turn things around. Maybe this one will get Dante back on track to make good films again. That’s why fingers are crossed with word that Dante has lined up his next project.

LABIRINTUS is it, being described as a supernatural thriller. So what’s this one about, you ask?

‘Labirintus’ tells the story of a paranormal investigator and psychiatric researcher, who join forces to explore an abandoned subterranean Soviet research facility, hidden within Hungary’s Budapest Labyrinth, the dark twisting catacombs beneath Buda Castle. When supernatural forces confound and torment the group, they begin to question their own sanity. To escape they must quash their fears and lead their team to find and destroy the dark heart of the maze.

Come on, Joe Dante… Make another good one, and please let this be it. Another disappointment from you won’t feel so good.
