Warner Bros. hasn't exactly had the best of luck getting its standalone FLASH movie off the ground. Seth Grahame-Smith was originally on-board to write and direct the film, but he soon exited the project and was replaced by Rick Famuyiwa, who also wound up leaving after disagreeing with the studio in regards to where to take the story. After rumours which ranged from Robert Zemeckis to Sam Raimi to Matthew Vaughn, it seems that Warner Bros. has finally made a choice. Will the third time be the charm? I honestly don't know.

Variety reports that John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (VACATION) are in negotiations to direct FLASHPOINT, but added that the studio was initially looking at Ben Affleck to direct the film before he passed as well. Neither John Francis Daley nor Jonathan Goldstein are strangers to the comic-book genre, having penned the recent SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING; in fact, the pair were also being considered to direct the Spidey flick as well before Jon Watts signed on. Given their involvement in FLASHPOINT, it's likely that the film will juggle action and comedy much like SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING.

The studio tasked Joby Harold (KING ARTHUR: LEGEND OF THE SWORD) with performing a page-one rewrite of FLASHPOINT a year ago, and the writer has recently turned in a new draft. Just how the FLASHPOINT story will be tackled isn't yet known, but Ezra Miller has previously teased that it may tear the DC universe apart.

What fans understand when they hear Flashpoint would be almost like hearing a word like ‘Crisis.’ We start to understand that our precious DC universe will inevitably be torn asunder to an endless, headache-inducing fabric of multiversality. The DC Hyper-Extended Multiverse, as I plan to call it. Quote me!

How do you feel about John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein taking the helm of FLASHPOINT?
