Joseph Gordon-Levitt is the latest actor rumored for the Guardians of the Galaxy lead

More and more names keep adding to the list for the lead role in Marvel’s GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. The newest addition is THE DARK KNIGHT RISES star Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Deadline is reporting JGL is in the mix for the lead but does not confirm if he has been offerred the role or is just another name thrown in the hat. So far that brings the list of candidates to 10: Joel Edgerton, Jack Huston, Jim Sturgess, Lee Pace, Eddie Redmayne, Zachary Levi, Garrett Hedlund, James Marsden, and Sullivan Stapleton.

All are vying for the role of Peter Quill, a NASA astronaut offered the job of Star-Lord (the Marvel equivalent of the Green Lantern Corps) by an alien entity called the Master of the Sun. He eventually becomes the leader of the group we know as the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY.

Of that group, two others have experience with the superhero genre aside from Gordon-Levitt: Zachary Levi (THOR: THE DARK WORLD), James Marsden (X-MEN). Gordon-Levitt is one of the strongest contenders of the group in terms of acting ability, but it is still hard to say if he would be the best fit. I still like Jack Huston for the role but I am leaning towards Zachary Levi as well. But, does appearing in other superhero movies make it hard to get a role like this? It certainly didn’t affect Chris Evans.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is set to film later this year for a release on August 1, 2014.
