Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous animated series to roar on Netflix

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Cue John Williams' "Jurassic Park – Main Theme" and prepare to embark on an animated adventure, as Dreamworks Animation and Amblin Entertainment have announced JURASSIC WORLD: CAMP CRETACEOUS, a brand-new animated series set to debut exclusively on Netflix in 2020.

Set to be executive produced by Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall, Colin Trevorrow, Scott Kreamer and Lane Lueras, JURASSIC WORLD: CAMP CRETACEOUS will take place during 2015's JURASSIC WORLD timeline, and will focus on six teenagers who have been stranded on Isla Nublar after the dinosaurs burst from their habitats and have started causing mayhem in the park. Together, these six strangers will need to grow, adapt, and work together as a family, if they're to survive the ordeal.

Serving as show runners for the upcoming animated series will be KUNG FU PANDA: LEGENDS OF AWESOMENESS scribe Scott Kreamer and THE LEGEND OF PUSS IN BOOTS contributing director Lane Lueras. The duo have previously collaborated for KUNG FU PANDA: LEGENDS OF AWESOMENESS, which is of course based on the mega-popular martial arts animated film series starring Jack Black as Po, the Dragon Warrior.

Here is the official synopsis for JURASSIC WORLD: CAMP CRETACEOUS:

Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous follows a group of six teenagers chosen for a once-in-a-lifetime experience at a new adventure camp on the opposite side of Isla Nublar. But when dinosaurs wreak havoc across the island, the campers are stranded. Unable to reach the outside world, they’ll need to go from strangers to friends to family if they’re going to survive.

While I'm not the biggest fan of the Jurassic franchise after the mind-numbing release of JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM, I must admit that an animated offering from the property has me intrigued. The trailer highlights the show's lush, photo-realistic enviroments as well as a beautifully rendered Velociraptor on patrol. While the key art does depict the human characters as stylized participants, it looks as if the dinos will appear rather close to their big screen counterparts. I'm also interested in seeing how six teenagers managed to navigate the island during the crisis, having never crossed paths with Owen (Chris Pratt), Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard), or even B.D. Wong's Dr. Henry Wu.
