Kevin Smith announces early pre-production on Jay and Silent Bob Reboot

After bouncing back from a life-threatening health scare in 2018, fan-favorite filmmaker Kevin Smith is ready to punch the new year square in the junk – Cockblocker styles – by getting to work on the JAY AND SILENT BOB REBOOT. Yesterday, Smith announced that he'd spent the first day of 2019 engaged in a production meeting for the follow-up to 2011's JAY AND SILENT BOB STRIKE BACK with Jordan Monsanto, Jason Mewes' wife, who will serve as a producer for the new film.

You can check out the post for yourself below:

In the photo, taken by Mewes himself, we find a happy and healthy Smith looking rather pleased about spending his post-holiday comedown at the We Work office. Sitting alongside Smith in the pic is Monsanto, whose sly grin tells me that she's excited and ready to make this long-gestating project a reality.

While details surrounding the film are scarce at this time, IMDB says that the plot will find Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Kevin Smith) "returning to Hollywood to stop a reboot of the 'Bluntman and Chronic' movie from getting made.”

“I’ve read the script, and it’s amazing and it’s super clever,” Mewes told Comicbook.com, back in September of 2017. “It’s called Jay & Silent Bob Reboot, and it’s Jay and Bob making fun of reboots. It’s funny — a couple of people have asked me, ‘are you guys even playing the characters if it’s a reboot?’ It’s not really a reboot, Kevin called it Jay & Silent Bob Reboot, and it’s us making fun of reboots, but the script’s awesome. It’s very funny.”

While he wasn't able to reveal much, Mewes did reveal to the outlet that Smith has been reaching out to several of his friends who helped Jay and Silent Bob find their place on the pop culture map, with the hope that they'll return for another round of stoner-related shenanigans. For the moment, Brian O'Halloran, who played Dante Hicks in Smith's breakout cult classic CLERKS, as well as the film's 2006 sequel, CLERKS 2, is the only actor confirmed to appear in the new film.

Is 2019 the Year of the Snoochie Boochies? Will the Dynamic Duo rise from the ashes like a mighty phoenix? Did the pair encounter and lawsuits after systematically beating up a laundry list of internet trolls? I can't wait to find out.
