The fur is going to fly when Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman squares off against Kristen Wiig's Cheetah for WONDER WOMAN 1984, one of the most anticipated superhero films this side of the DC Universe.

Warner Bros. recently debuted a new photo from the upcoming sequel to director Patty Jenkins' 2017 box office smash that shows Gadot's Diana Prince ensnaring Wiig's villainous Barbara Minerva/Cheetah with her golden Lasso of Truth. Judging by the decor, the battle looks to be taking place while inside the White House. Both women are framed by stone-white columns as well as a thick, red carpet. If you look closely, you'll also see what looks to be Secret Service agents littered about the room, no doubt passed out after Diana delivered a righteous beat down on their red, white and blue asses.

Recently WONDER WOMAN 1984 director Patty Jenkins announced that her sequel would be moving from its original June 5 release to August 14. For a time, there were rumors (and hopes) that the sequel would go straight to VOD in light of theaters being closed due to the coronavirus outbreak. However, Warner Bros. was not so quick to unleash what will surely be a box office barn burner via HBO Max, or any other digital streaming service for that matter. There's simply too much money tied up in the film's marketing, merchandising and other matters to risk not giving the film a theatrical release.

“When we greenlit WW 1984 it was with every intention to be viewed on the big screen and are excited to announce that Warner Bros. Pictures will be bringing the film to theaters on August 14th. We hope the world will be in a safer and healthier place by then,” said Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group Chairman Toby Emmerich in a statement.

While specific plot details for WONDER WOMAN 1984 remain a mystery at this time, we do know that the film will see the return of Steve Trevor (Chris Pine), who had sacrificed himself before the end of the 2017 original. Additionally, the new business will also play host to two villains in Pedro Pascal's Maxwell Lord and Kristen Wiig's Barbara Minerva/Cheetah.

However the film shakes out, I've no doubt that people will be lining up around the globe to see DC's warrior princess next big adventure on the big screen, once it's safe to return to theaters. Here's hoping that all goes according to plan and that WONDER WOMAN 1984 lands in theaters on August 14.
