Laurie gears up for Michael's return in new Halloween pic

Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions have unleashed a new photo (courtesy of USA Today) for David Gordon Green's highly-anticipated horror sequel HALLOWEEN. The new image features Laurie Strode (played by Jamie Lee Curtis) cleaning her gun and getting battle-ready in anticipation of the masked slasher, Michael Myers, returning to finish what he'd started in Haddonfield, Illinois. In looking at the photo, we can see that Laurie's been keeping fit throughout the years, as her doomsday-style prep has no doubt kept her sharp and ready for action. One thing's for sure, Michael is going to have to pull out all the stops if he stands any chance of taking out his old nemesis.

HALLOWEEN picks up four decades after the events of the original film, with Laurie poised and ready to toe-to-toe with The Shape that terrorized her on that dark and murderous Halloween night. This time around, Judy Greer will arrive on the scene as Karen Strode, Laurie's daughter, while ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK alumna Andi Matichak will portray Allyson, Laurie's granddaughter.

Legendary horror extraordinaire John Carpenter will executive produce in addition to serving as a creative consultant on the film, which features a story crafted by Green alongside Danny McBride and Jeff Fradley. Rather than explore Myers' motivations and origin, Green has said that the new feature will refrain from delving into what makes Michael tick. "So much of what makes the boogeyman horrifying to me is the mystery and almost cat-like mannerisms and curiosity of this character,” Green said in a statement.

So far, all signs point to this HALLOWEEN being an installment that fans of the original series can get excited for. Here's hoping that the film delivers on all fronts, and perhaps sparks an interest in re-introducing slahsers the likes of Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger and Pinhead to the big screen, once more.

HALLOWEEN will bow in theaters on October 19.
