Legally Blonde 3 release date

Oh my God, you guys! Reese Witherspoon will be stepping back into the shoes of Elle Woods in LEGALLY BLONDE 3, which now has a new release date.

LEGALLY BLONDE 3 will hit screens in May of 2022. The news came on Tuesday night, the same night a LEGALLY BLONDE 20-year reunion went live!  MGM Studios revealed the news on their official Twitter page but did not reveal exactly when it will arrive in that month. You can check out their Twitter post about the release date below:

Talk of a new LEGALLY BLONDE film surfaced when Reese Witherspoon made an Instagram post, as Elle Woods, announcing that a third film would be made. This was back in 2018 and during that time original LEGALLY BLONDE writers Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith and Karen McCullah were set to return, and the film was given a 2020 release date. Strangely talk of the film stopped until earlier this year when it was announced that Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor signed on to write the script and that the original writers would not be involved in the third film. This new release date is a major step forward for the project as it appears it is actually happening.

LEGALLY BLONDE was released in 2001 and is based on the 2001 novel of the same name by Amanda Brown. Witherspoon starred as Elle Woods, a sorority girl who attempts to win back her ex-boyfriend, played by Matthew Davos, by getting a Juris Doctor degree at Harvard Law School, and in the process, overcome stereotypes against blondes and triumphs as a successful lawyer through unflappable self-confidence and fashion/beauty knowhow…you know…just like real life. All joking aside, the film became highly successful and most of its success was due to the charming lead performance by Reese Witherspoon. The fill which also starred Alanna Ubach, Jessica Cauffiel, Luke Wilson, Selma Blair, Victor Garber, and Jennifer Coolidge, was made for $18 million and went on to gross $141 million at the worldwide box office. LEGALLY BLONDE also earned two Golden Globe nominations including Best Actress – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy and Best Motion Picture: Musical or Comedy. The financial success led to a 2003 sequel, LEGALLY BLONDE 2: RED, WHITE & BLONDE, and a 2009 direct-to-DVD spin-off, LEGALLY BLONDES. Additionally, Legally Blonde: The Musical premiered in January of 2007 and received seven Tony nominations.
