Lou Ferrigno Jr. cast as Hourman for DC Universe’s Stargirl series

One day after pulling back the curtain on Joel McHale's casting as Sylvester Pemberton aka Starman for DC Universe's upcoming STARGIRL series, TVLine has exclusively announced that Lou Ferrigno Jr. will be joining the cast of the upcoming superhero show as the Golden Age Hourman, founding member of the JSA (Justice Society of America).

As per DC Comics lore, Rex Tyler a.k.a. Hourman is the accomplished chemist who discovers the chemical Miraclo, a "miracle vitamin" that permits Tyler to transform into a superhero with extraordinary abilities. Ah, but there's a catch. The Miraclo "vitamin" only works for one hour at a time. In other words, the moment the clock ticks down on the chemical's effects, Tyler is restored to his original, average form. Sounds like a rough deal, doesn't it? However, imagine what you could do with a chemical like that, even for just one hour. Yeah, the possibilities are quite endless, so long as you play it safe and keep an eye on the clock.

Here's the official synopsis for DC Universe's STARGIRL:

Courtney Whitmore (aka Stargirl) is smart, athletic and above all else kind. This high school teenager's seemingly perfect life hits a major speed bump when her mother gets married and her new family moves from Los Angeles, California to Blue Valley, Nebraska. Struggling to adapt to a new school, make new friends and deal with a new step-family, Courtney discovers her step-father has a secret; he used to be the sidekick to a superhero. "Borrowing" the long-lost hero's cosmic staff, Courtney becomes the unlikely inspiration for an entirely new generation of superheroes.

The series is coming to DC Universe, the studio's exclusive streaming service, from executive producers Greg BerlantiGeoff Johns and Sarah Schechter. When the adventurous series gets underway, STARGIRL will feature Brec Bassinger (THE GOLDBERGS, BELLA AND THE BULLDOGS) as Courtney Whitmore a.k.a. Stargirl, Yvette Monreal (THE FOSTERS, FAKING IT), Christopher James Baker (TRUE DETECTIVE), and Anjelika Washington (YOUNG SHELDON, SHAMELESS, Marvel's RUNAWAYS) in a starring roles.

STARGIRL is a part of DC's lineup of live-action shows destined for the exclusive streaming service in 2019 alongside TITANS, SWAMP THING, and DOOM PATROL. Be sure to subscribe to DC Universe if you want to get in on the ground floor of this intriguing slate of superhero shows.
