Ma trailer: Octavia Spencer's house is the place to throw a killer party

Growing up, my friend Vinny's father didn't pay much attention to what went down in the bottom portion of his own home. As a result, we threw ragers there on a fairly consistent basis. Just about anything within reason was up for grabs, and I've got more than a few stories to tell about the time someone let Vinny's pet tarantulas out of their enclosures. That was one hell of a New Year's Eve, my friends.

So, why are we taking a brief trip down memory lane? Well, it's because Blumhouse's new trailer for MA starring Octavia Spencer is all about a good party house gone bad. In the upcoming film from director Tate Taylor (THE HELP, PRETTY UGLY PEOPLE), Spencer stars as Sue Ann, a loner who keeps to herself in her quiet Ohio town. One day, she is asked by Maggie, a new teenager in town (Diana Silvers), to buy some booze for her and her friends, and Sue Ann sees the chance to make some unsuspecting, if younger, friends of her own.

She offers the kids the chance to avoid drinking and driving by hanging out in the basement of her home. But there are some house rules: One of the kids has to stay sober. Don’t curse. Never go upstairs. And call her “Ma.” But as Ma’s hospitality starts to curdle into obsession, what began as a teenage dream turns into a terrorizing nightmare, and Ma’s place goes from the best place in town to the worst place on earth.

Starring alongside Spencer in MA is Juliette Lewis (STRANGE DAYS, NATURAL BORN KILLERS) as Maggie's mom, Luke Evans (Furious 6, STATE LIKE SLEEP) as a local dad, Missi Pyle (GALAXY QUEST, CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY) as his girlfriend, and McKaley Miller (SCREAM QUEENS), Corey Fogelmanis (GIRL MEETS WORLD), Gianni Paolo (POWER), and Dante Brown (LETHAL WEAPON) as Maggie's friends.

Written by Taylor and Comedy Central's WORKAHOLICS scribe Scotty Landes, MA is produced by Blumhouse Productions, Taylor, and GET ON UP executive producer John Norris. Meanwhile, Spencer, Couper Samuelson, Jeanette Volturno, and Robin Fisichella will all executive produce.

Alright, so maybe Ma's is nothing like Vinny's place. I suppose I should be thankful for that fact. Party responsibly, kids.

MA will welcome moviegoers to her home and into theaters beginning on May 31, 2019.
