Maisie Williams says Game of Thrones release quote is “completely false”

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

While many citizens of the world are still coping with the fact we won’t see a new season of GAME OF THRONES this year, hope was given when news came out with star Maisie Williams saying the final season would arrive April 2019. However, whatever crying ball we all came out of must now be returned to as Williams took to Twitter to clarify that the story has no truth to it.

In the tweet, she said that the reports (coming from Metro) were “completely false” and that her words were taken from an interview she gave some time ago.

In the quote she is referring to, Williams said that "We wrap in December and we air our first episode in April [2019]" in regards to the new season of GAME OF THRONES. The final season started film around fall 2017, and will probably continue through summer.

Until recently there had been much speculation as to when the final season of GOT would air. The final season will consist of six longer-than-usual episodes that will take much longer to film, thus hinting the season would arrive late 2018-early 2019. News then broke that fans would have to wait until 2019 for the eighth season. Thus, we took a dive into a carton ice cream and there we shall remain.

The show could still arrive in April, but still, HBO may be toying with a specific release date. Previous seasons have (sans season seven), so the real date may not be too far off from April, if not that month exactly. On that note, it's understandable why everyone believed the quote, especially as we are all desperate to get more info on when the new season is coming out. Oh well, I guess it's back to the window to dream and stare off into the distance.

GAME OF THRONES is set to return sometime in 2019.
