Mark Hamill quips about returning to Star Wars and the new cast

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

It may come as a surprise that even there there is no panel for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII, self-proclaimed comic book nerd Mark Hamill will not be in attendance for this year’s San Diego Comic Con. No doubt busy shooting a sequel to some franchise you may have heard of, Hamill actually came out of the woodwork to check out a UK screening of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. He was eventually cornered and offered up some information regarding everyone’s favorite space opera.

Mark Hamill on the original cast returning to Star Wars:

It was certainly unexpected — I already had a beginning, middle and end, I never thought we’d come back. To go on to those sets that evoked so many memories, it is just astonishing. I thought even if they did a third trilogy, we wouldn’t be involved, because it is really about the new generation of characters. We are just there to lend our support and grow contractually obligated beards.

Regarding Harrison Ford‘s leg injury:

It was really terrible, but I hear he’s doing really well. It will take more than that to stop Harrison Ford!

Hamill speaking about the new cast:

They are so talented. They are all so diverse — there are people I recognize like Andy Serkis, and new people that I’ve never seen before, like Daisy Ridley. But they are so good. I’m thinking of asking them for advice; I don’t want to give any myself!

Regarding not going to SDCC:

I’m a comic book nerd myself so I miss all you guys! Hopefully I’ll be back next year.

Mark Hamill‘s always been so cool with discussing his involvement with Star Wars, and he’s the cast member I’m most looking forward to seeing come STAR WARS: EPISODE VII. It’s a shame he has to miss this year’s Comic Con, but I suppose it’s understandable. For those of you who haven’t had the chance to check it out, it’s worth looking up COMIC BOOK: THE MOVIE, directed by Mr. Hamill. It’s a mockumentary of sorts, but also a love letter to the fans of film and comic books. Here’s hoping Hamill has something in store for us come SDCC 2015!

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII will hit theaters December 18, 2015.
