CONTRABAND seems like one of those movies where you don’t even need to know what’s going on. None of the trailers I’ve seen have done much of a job trying to explain the plot of the film (basically people are f*cking with Mark Wahlberg’s family and he gets pissed) and I’m assuming the eventual TV spots will be a few quick shots of Wahlberg holding a gun, Kate Beckinsale in peril and running and explosions. Which could be about 1,000 other movies.
Which is not to say CONTRABAND is a bad movie. I have no information that would lead me to believe that is the case (other than the January release date). TAKEN was thought to be one of those generic, Luc Besson-style revenge-action flicks but it actually worked. Really well. Maybe Wahlberg can pull of the same.
