When Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige unveiled the slate for Phase 4 of the MCU, there was a bit of surprise that a sequel to BLACK PANTHER wasn’t up there among the other titles. He did hint at the end that more adventures set in the nation of Wakanda are coming, but it seems that won’t happen for a few more years in Phase 5. While that will no doubt see the return of T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman), Okoye (Danai Gurira), Shuri (Letitia Wright) and Nakia (Lupita Nyong'o), actor Martin Freeman is sure that his character, CIA agent Everett Ross, will be back for more too.

Freeman was speaking with Collider while promoting his new movie, ODE TO JOY, when he was asked if Ross was set to appear in any more movies down the line, having first appeared in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR. He may not now everything Marvel has planned, but Freeman is confident he will get to go Wakanda once again.

“As far as I know, I will be [returning]. As far as I know, I will be in another Black Panther. That’s my understanding. As to when that will happen, I don’t know.”

Having a smaller supporting role in CIVIL WAR – getting to take away Cap’s shield and Falcon’s wings – Freeman’s Ross has a more substantial role to play in BLACK PANTHER as he found himself teaming up with the main heroes to fight back against Michael B. Jordan’s Erik Killmonger.

Details are sparse on the new BLACK PANTHER, but after making $1.3 billion worldwide and winning several Oscars, as well as securing a nomination for Best Picture, it stands to reason that a sequel is a top priority on Marvel's list. Director Ryan Coogler will be back to write and direct the sequel, and in July Feige shot down a rumor that Killmonger, who died at the end of the first movie, would be back for the sequel. In that same quote, Feige said that Coogler had just started to write the outline for the movie and that he would have something to show soon.
