Megan Fox and John C. Reilly join Sacha Baron Cohen’s The Dictator

It’s kind of nice to see Sacha Baron Cohen move away from the faux-documentary style he popularized and focus on starring in a truly fictional film where he can showcase his acting talents, which extend far beyond making people feel awkward in real life.

We’ve talked a bit about THE DICTATOR before here, which is a comedy adapted from a book Sadaam Hussein personally wrote. Cohen will play both a despot and a farmer lookalike hired to replace him when he goes to America and is smitten with a shopkeeper (Anna Farris).

The film needs more players it seems however, as John C. Reilly and Megan Fox have just been added to the cast in unspecified roles. Reilly is of course always great, but Fox? Her star has been falling fast as of late, booted out of the TRANSFORMERS series, apparently at the behest of Steven Spielberg (he said Bay shouldn’t put up with her calling him Hitler in public), and her last film was the abhorrent PASSION PLAY that even star Mickey Rourke couldn’t stand.

I’m not quite sure why there’s so much hate for Fox as an actress. As a person? She tries to play the victim a lot, which is annoying and it’s hard to read interviews with her without cringing, but I don’t really blame her for not being able to do much with a Michael Bay script. I actually liked JENNIFER’S BODY, and really, she’s just too hot not to be given a chance in Hollywood. She does need to stop talking to the press though.
