Michael Keaton teaches Dylan O’Brien a lesson in American Assassin trailer

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

On top being the next great action-spy franchise, AMERICAN ASSASSIN will try and act as proof that even a teen heart throb like Dylan O'Brien can be morphed into a bearded badass like John Wick. Of course he’ll need the help of Michael Keaton to do it, and if anyone can teach anyone a lesson or two it’s him. The first trailer for the movie has arrived show us how true that is, and you can watch it all happen below.

Here’s the official synopsis from Lionsgate and CBS Films so I don’t have to summarize it for you:

AMERICAN ASSASSIN follows the rise of Mitch Rapp (Dylan O’Brien) a CIA black ops recruit under the instruction of Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton).  The pair is then enlisted by CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan) to investigate a wave of apparently random attacks on both military and civilian targets.  Together the three discover a pattern in the violence leading them to a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent (Shiva Negar) to stop a mysterious operative (Taylor Kitsch) intent on starting a World War in the Middle East.

Overall the first trailer for the movie makes it look like a solid action thriller, clearly set up to be the beginning of a franchise. I mean, it looks like it may fall into the realm of a standard beat-em’-up flick, but it could be a fun time. Keaton adds about five bonus points, so that counts for something.

AMERICAN ASSASSIN arrives September 15.
