Michael Keaton’s Birdman claims Edward Norton as their egotistical leading man

Birdman Keaton and Norton

Yesterday we received great casting news about the hilarious sounding dark comedy BIRDMAN, the new movie from director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu. The film has Michael Keaton as a washed-up actor previously known for playing a legendary superhero (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) who is trying to direct a play that he hopes will help his career rebound but has to deal with an arrogant leading man in the production. While there were some excellent suggestions on who would play a great pompous actor (Christian Bale would have almost been too perfect) there was one star that wasn’t mentioned who has been known to not work that well with others.

According to Deadline, Mr. Edward Norton has been cast as the blowhard actor of the play. Norton has had a couple of run-ins with directors and studios in the past and he certainly knows how to work a dark comedy (DEATH TO SMOOCHY, FIGHT CLUB). The casting for BIRDMAN has been excellent across the board so far but the addition of Edward Norton has me really worked up now. I want this film immediately. Norton vs Keaton…who will come out alive?

Also staring Zach Galifianakis, Emma Stone, and Naomi Watts, BIRDMAN starts shooting in mid-April.
