Miles Morales becomes a hero in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse trailer

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Spider-Man has had a run at the movies spanning almost two decades, going through tons of changes and actors. But in SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE, we will see an incredibly different side of the web-head in a visually arresting animated movie with the Miles Morales iteration front and center. We have an action-packed, gorgeous, nerdgasmic and often funny new trailer for you, further establishing we are in the golden age of the cinematic web-slinger.

Actor Shameik Moore will be voicing the role of the young Morales, while Jake Johnson will be playing his mentor, Peter Parker. As well, Liev Schreiber is playing the villainous Kingpin, and Hailee Steinfeld is a very welcome Spider-Gwen/Gwen Stacey. The rest of the cast is fleshed out by Mahershala Ali as Miles’ uncle Aaron, Brian Tyree Henry playing Miles’ father Jefferson, Luna Lauren Velez as Miles’ mother Rio, and Lily Tomlin as Aunt May.

I wasn’t as sold on the movie after the first trailer like some, and I found it hard to accept the visual style the movie has. But now that my brain is used to it I find myself completely immersed in the bold color and rich detail that embraces that vibrant look of comic book panels while style maintaining a fluid, cinematic feel. As for content, I love this take on a Spidey origin story that digs deep into the recent mythology of the character. This just went from a movie I wasn’t so sure on to becoming one of my most anticipated of the year. Is it December yet?

SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE arrives December 14.
