Millie Bobby Brown quits Twitter after being inundated with homophobic memes

It's only been a week since Kelly Marie Tran deleted her Instagram account due to a ceaseless stream of harassment and racist remarks hailing from the Star Wars community, and now, I regret to report that Millie Bobby Brown has now quit her Twitter profile as well. The STRANGER THINGS star walked from the social media platform after users posted memes depicting her as a violent homophobe, some of the posts received thousands of retweets and reactions. Brown, a proud and public supporter of GLAAD’s Together movement and outspoken youngster for the survivors of the Parkland shooting, was a frequent user of Twitter before reaching the conclusion that she'd endured more than her fair share of bullying.

While the origin of the memes has not been determined, some who have been monitoring the escalation say that it originated as an inside joke among LGBT Twitter users. It's worth noting that Brown has a second, anti-bullying account under the name @Millestopshate, which at this time is still alive and well. The actress who is soon to be starring in Michael Dougherty's GODZILLA: KING OF MONSTERS is now among several women who've chosen to leave the social media app. A list of those who've said "Bye, Felicia" to the little blue bird includes: Saturday Night Live and GHOSTBUSTERS alum Leslie Jones, and both Daisy Ridley and Kelly Marie Tran of Star Wars fame.

Brown, who's got a very bright future ahead of her, despite trolls trying to drag her down, will reprise her role as Eleven when STRANGER THINGS Season 3 comes to Netflix.
