Mummy 4? Please no.

THE MUMMY: TOMB OF THE DRAGON EMPEROR made something like $40 million its opening weekend. That’d be enough to open in first place on most weekends but THE DARK KNIGHT was still steamrolling the competition. But still $40 million is more than THE MUMMY 3 should have made in its entire run. It’s that bad. And I, as well as all of us here at JoBlo, love Roger Ebert but Rog, three stars? It’s stuff like that that’s going to get us a fourth MUMMY movie. And wouldn’t you know it, director Rob Cohen is already talking about it. He told MTV, “We now have it clear that the MUMMY franchise can travel…we know that if we want to go to Mexico or we want to go to Peru, we can.” This is based on comments by stars Brendan Fraser and Maria Bello that the film’s next stop is either the Amazon or Peru. How about nowhere? How about the MUMMY’s next stop is on a dusty shelf in some Hollywood storage bin? For lots more on what Cohen imagines could be in a fourth MUMMY movie (including lots of spoilers on what happens at the end of MUMMY 3), check out the MTV Movies Blog.
