Nathan Fillion joins Percy Jackson sequel

Nathan Fillion, known to many as the star of ABC's crime procedural CASTLE and to the rest of us as Captain Malcolm Reynolds in FIREFLY and SERENITY, has joined the cast of the upcoming sequel PERCY JACKSON: SEA OF MONSTERS.

The story follows Percy Jackson, and his friends Annabeth Chase, Clarisse La Rue and Tyson, his half brother, on a journey in the Sea of Monsters to retrieve the legendary Golden Fleece and save Camp Half-Blood.

The original PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS grossed $226 million at the box office worldwide, it only hit $88 million stateside.  Not exactly sequel worthy numbers.

Nathan Fillion will play Hermes, father to antagonist Luke (Jake Abel).  The role of Hermes was played by Dylan Neal in the original film.

I have gotten so used to him playing the Han Solo-type guy, it may be nice to see Fillion take on a darker, more villanous role.

No word on whether Pierce Brosnan, Uma Thurman, Steve Coogan, Sean Bean, or Rosario Dawson will be back in any capacity.

Extra Tidbit: I am still waiting on a follow up to DR HORRIBLE.
