Netflix reveals a first look at Roach in Henry Cavill’s The Witcher

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Some people say that a horse is a horse, of course, of course, unless that horse is Roach from Netflix's THE WITCHER. If you're Roach, then everybody who's looking forward to the streamer's upcoming fantasy action series wants to see you front and center, hoofs and all.

Before Netflix debuted a batch of first look images that showcased the primary cast members of THE WITCHER in all their glory, fans of the swords and sorcery franchise were climbing the walls for a peek at Superman actor Henry Cavill as the show's main character, Geralt of Rivia. In truth, I have a sneaking suspicion that many were waiting for Netflix to cock up Geralt's iconic silver mane, his intricate armor, and broodtastic demeanor. However, upon laying eyes on Cavill's version, many swooned and sighed their relief at just how true-to-form the beloved character looks. However, like every other instance when people are satiated on the internet, their calm didn't last long. Shortly after Cavill, Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan's character looks (who play Yennefer and Ciri on the show, respectively, and arrived to high praise from fans) those most dedicated to The Witcher brand wanted more. They wanted the horse. Give us Roach or give us death, they chanted. Not really, but in this messed up era of internet demands, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they did.

And now, the moment you've all been waiting for. Can I get a drum roll, please? You demanded it, and so like a quality streaming platform they delivered! Ladies and gentlemen, Equestrains of all ages, I proudly present to you, Roach, Geralt of Rivia's trusty horse!

Isn't she gorgeous? Don't you just want to brush her and pet her and jump over the bodies of dead goblins with her? Forget Mr. Ed, Roach is the battle-ready nag we deserve!

Based on the best-selling fantasy series of books, THE WITCHER is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile continent together.

Serving as executive producer and showrunner for the upcoming series is Schmidt Hissrich, who in the past has contributed to such programs as Marvel's THE DEFENDERS, DAREDEVIL, and POWER. Also set to executive produce is Sean Daniel via his Sean Daniel Company banner alongside his partner Jason Brown. Also set to executive produce are Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko of Platige Image.

When THE WITCHER is conjured onto Netflix, the show will present a world rich with wonder and populated by dangerous beasts. There's magic waiting around every bend, and most of it is black and deadly. Holn onto your butts, fantasy fans, because THE WITCHER hopes to cast a spell on you all, and Geralt makes no bones about how to get the job done.
