More villains teased in new story on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 viral site

As Sony ramps up viral promotions for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 we are learning about more and more villains and character names from comics that are populating the world of the Marvel webslinger. Over the last months we have learned about The Enforcers and other minor villains through the Daily Bugle website and posts from J. Jonah Jameson and his crew. Today's post to the site not only teases another villain but one that most comic fans should be familiar with.

The story concerns a bank robbery and the man responsible. Pay attention to his name as well as the quoted officer.

A shocking Midtown bank robbery was foiled yesterday by Spider-Man. New York’s superhuman vigilante caught the mechanically augmented robber, suspected in two previous bank heists, as he fled the scene with the stolen loot.

Police arrived on the scene as Spider-Man finished webbing up the suspect, who was arrested and later identified as disgruntled engineer, Herman Schultz. Schultz created wrist-gauntlets that are capable of emitting a vibratory wave of pressure that proved capable of tearing apart a four-foot thick steel vault.

NYPD Special Crimes Unit Detective Stan Carter stated that Schultz had officially been remanded into custody and is being held at the Ravencroft Institute pending his preliminary hearing. When asked how a “disgruntled engineer” could create such dangerous weapons, Carter said, “Shocking, right? All that genius but no escape plan.”

For those of you not familiar, Herman Schultz is better known as The Shocker.  He has been a member of the Sinister Six, so his mention here could be another hint of what is to come in the sequels to THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 and the announced spin-off films.  Detective Stan Carter is also a comic character known as Sin-Eater, a vigilante cop who acts in a way similar to The Punisher.  Both characters are being teased blatantly here but this doesn't mean they will get a big screen appearance.

It always struck me as odd that in between superhero movies there are rarely references to the villains defeated by the hero of the film.  Are we to believe that after beating one supervillain that heroes don't see another in all the time until the next film?  It hasn't been done yet but seeing The Shocker hit screens and reference prior run-ins with Spidey would lend a little more realism to the hero tenure.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 already boasts a huge array of bad guys and is teasing even more.  How many we actually see in the movie remains to be seen until the film hits theaters on May 2, 2014

Extra Tidbit: Spider-man got The Shocker. Hahahahaha.
