New Mid90s trailer showcases acclaim for Jonah Hill's directorial debut

There were a ton of great movies to come of out TIFF this year, with one of the most talked about being Jonah Hill's directorial debut, MID90S. The story of a 13-year-old boy named Stevie (Sunny Suljic) forming a friendship with a group of skateboarders has earned rave reviews, many hailing Hill for his deft direction and script that balances heart, humor, and sadness. The new trailer for the movie puts the acclaim front and center, solidifying Hill as yet another great actor who has proven to be a great director as well.

Having seen the red band trailer in theaters numerous times, this will probably be the one A24 begins to push as they try to get audiences and awards voters behind their latest critical triumph. Who knows if the movie will get major awards attention, but people certainly seem to be loving the movie, and it currently has a 95 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Our own Chris Bumbray caught the movie at TIFF, giving the movie a solid 7/10, saying, “Hill’s done a good job starting out with the small-scale charmer, and he’s on an interesting path as a filmmaker if he chooses to go down that route.”

Here is the plot synopsis:

Written and directed by Jonah Hill, Mid90s follows Stevie, a thirteen-year-old in 90s-era LA who spends his summer navigating between his troubled home life and a group of new friends that he meets at a Motor Avenue skate shop.

MID90S hits theaters October 19.
