New Star Wars: Squadrons trailer details the game’s single-player experience

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Strap in, pilots, and prepare for a series of immersive aerial battles in a galaxy far, far away! Today during this year's Gamescom 2020 event, Electronic Arts, Motive Studios and Lucasfilm unveiled a new look at the authentic single-player story featured in Star Wars: Squadrons, the hotly anticipated interstellar dogfighting experience set in the world-famous Star Wars galaxy,

The new trailer highlights the game's single-player campaign and how it expands the story of Star Wars: Squadrons. It also highlights the alternating perspective that players are poised to experience as they go back and forth as two customizable pilots on opposing missions to safeguard the newly formed New Republic or to help restore order to The Galactic Empire.

Per the fourth Star Wars: Squadrons Pilot Mission Briefing:

This is a story of daring pilots and a deep-seated rivalry. At the start of the game, you’ll create two customizable pilots: one flying for freedom as a part of the New Republic and the other imposing the Galactic Empire’s vision of order. From both their perspectives, you’ll get to see how the war unfolded on both fronts, including the goals held by each faction’s leaders.

As the trailer plays on, Motive Studios' Narrative Producer Susanne Hunka reveals even more about what's to come when the game takes flight. For example, players who have access to VR will get to experience the entire game inside a virtual space. That's right, Playstation VR owners, your PSVR isn't just for Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, Shooty Fruity, Moss, Concrete Genie, and Superhot VR anymore!

Each mission in the game will immerse you in an escalating conflict between the New Republic and the Shattered Empire. Debrief with your squad between missions, customize and master all eight starfighters, and strap yourselves in for one of the most unique Star Wars video game experiences to date!

Do a barrel roll! Sorry, I couldn' resist. While Star Wars: Squadrons already looks cool as hell, I must say that it's the VR experience that I'm looking forward to the most. I can't wait to press all the shiny, blinking buttons in the cockpit, and feel the rush as enemy pilots dash and dart across the stars. Put me in the game, coach. My body is ready.

Star Wars: Squadrons will be unleashed on Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows on October 2, 2020.
